When dogs come into shelters, it’s difficult to pinpoint their dates of birth, and all shelters can do is give an educated guess to each dog’s birthday. While an approximate age in years is possible to determine, an exact date of birth is not. So in 2008, August 1st was declared the universal birthday for all shelter dogs by the North shore animal league America, the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. Now, for over 10 years, August, also known as DOGust has been deemed as the time to celebrate for all shelter dogs.
