Some books about animals warm your heart. Others touch your soul. Homer’s Odyssey, subtitled A Fearless Feline Tale, or exactly how I discovered about like as well as Life with a Blind Wondercat falls into the second category. This moving, inspiring as well as commonly funny story about a blind feline with a significant spirit as well as an unlimited capability for love, delight as well as a decision to persevere no matter what the challenges is a fantastic event of the bond between a feline as well as his human as well as the transformational power of loving an animal.
Homer’s story begins when the stray kitten is given Miami veterinarian Dr. Patty Khuly (who composed the foreword to the book), hold of the prominent veterinary blog Dolittler, at only three weeks of age. Homer loses both eyes to a serious eye infection, as well as while nobody would have faulted Dr. Khuly for euthanizing this kitten, she saw something in him that made her identified to save him. When Gwen gets a phone call from Dr. Khuly asking whether she would come take a look at this kitten, the last thing the author wants is one more cat. She already has two, as well as she’s concerned about crossing the line into crazy feline woman area by adopting one more one. however she agrees to take a look – as well as falls in love.
Homer, the blind kitten who doesn’t understand he’s blind, has a giant heart and an indomitable spirit. He rapidly adapts to new circumstances as well as environments, and turns into a feline daredevil who scales tall bookcases in a single bound as well as catches flies by jumping five feet into the air. Eventually, Gwen as well as the three cats relocation from Miami to new York City (and the story of their relocation is an experience that will have you on the edge of your seat with concern as well as issue for this household of four). Adjusting to city living in a chilly climate takes some time, however when again, Homer’s adaptable spirit triumphs. He even survives being trapped with his two feline buddy for days after 9/11 in an house near the world trade Center.
But it wasn’t Homer’s physical feats as well as his capability to adapt to physical limitations that eventually transformed the author’s life. Homer’s unending capability for like as well as joy, no matter what life’s difficulties may be, were a everyday motivation for Gwen, as well as eventually taught her the most essential lesson of all: like isn’t something you see with your eyes.
It’s unusual that a pet memoir is the type of book you can’t put down – however this is. Thankfully, I understood at the outset that house is to life as well as well, so unlike what occurs with so numerous books in this genre, I didn’t expect to cry while reading this book. bit did I understand exactly how the gut-wrenching account of the author’s experience in the days complying with 9/11 would impact me. Gwen Cooper lived with every feline owners’ headache – fearing for the security as well as survival of her cats, as well as being not able to get to them for a number of days. The moving narrative as well as emotional effect of this chapter will leave few feline enthusiasts unaffected.
Homer’s Odyssey is a must-read, to quote from the book’s cover, “for anybody who’s ever fallen totally as well as hopelessly in love with a pet.”

I understand this is an old evaluation but, I just can’t believe there are no comments. I like feline books as well as have checked out them all. This was the one book that, although I had long heard exactly how great it was, I might not checked out it.I purchased it however ,year after year I would pick it up as well as then rapidly put it back down.,friends told me it was excellent however I just had a funny feeling when I chosen it up.6 months back my feline like , Desmond , likewise a vibrant black feline all of a sudden died.I was so devastated that I forbade anybody from discussing his name, when my mind wandered to him I made myself believe of something else. I have had to state great bye to cats before as well as I had grieved each one. On the night Desmond died it was so unforeseen , I collapsed into screaming as well as crying as well as then I put it away. Last Friday while cleaning my shelves I discovered this book. I took a seat as well as checked out the whole thing that evening. I began crying from page 1 ( in great way) . I liked all 3 of these cats as well as Gwen herself. The lovely spirit of Homer was apparent on every page as well as the like between Gwen, the cats as well as ultimately Laurence was so touching. I recognize why it took me so lonull
